1st Latin American Guitar Festival Chicago

El jueves 8 de diciembre comenzo el Festival

Dec8 Flyer OptThe 1st Latin American Guitar Festival Chicago begins on December 8, 2011 and concludes on December 17. It will offer recitals, lectures, master classes and workshops for people who are interested in Latin American music. The festival will be held in Pilsen, a culturally diverse neighborhood located in the south side of Chicago. The idea to create a Latin American guitar festival is born out of the commitment to inspire art and culture in the Latino immigrant community and to promote traditional Latin popular and art music. We want to develop interest in classical music through the works of Latin American composers such as Antonio Lauro from Venezuela, Agustín Barrios from Paraguay, Leo Brouwer from Cuba, Gentil Montaña from Colombia, and traditional composers like J.S. Bach, J.K. Mertz, Fernando Sor, and Joaquín Turina among others. It is important to highlight that these composers have two things in common: first- they composed classical music inspired by popular music; second- they all immigrated to other countries in search for better opportunities. Therefore, from this point of view, there exists a link that unites these composers with the immigrant community, and this is the need to make the difficult decision of leaving everything behind to reach the objective of personal growth. It is for this reason that the festival is planned for the community of Latino immigrants in Chicago and surrounding areas, but not exclusively. The invitation is open to anyone who is interested. All activities are accessible to people with any level of musicianship, from first time amateurs to advanced music students.

Guest artists will represent different Latin American countries. Daniel Torres from Argentina, Mauricio Villar and José Luis Posada from Colombia, Luis Vivanco from Peru, Álvaro Durango from Ecuador and Ivan Resendiz from Mexico are qualified to ensure a fruitful experience to any music aficionado.
